The build and price is finally live for the 2020 XT6. Seen as a much needed model for Cadillac, it’s bigger than the XT5 but smaller than the Escalade and seats 7. Here’s the pricing breakdown.

Kinja'd!!!

There are only 2 trim levels to choose from for the XT6. The first, Premium, starts at the aforementioned $53,690. Both are powered by GM’s tried and true 3.6 V6. In the XT6 it makes 310 horses and 271 lb/ft of torque. This gets routed through a 9 speed auto. Its standout standard features Cadillac likes to tout are:

Bright Galvano exterior accents (grille, roof rails, side window surround, door handles)

Unique exotic wood species interior décor

Unique Premium Luxury front and rear fascia elements

Unique Premium Luxury 20" wheels

Passive MacPherson Strut front and 5-link rear suspension

Red tail lamp lens

You can choose between front or AWD. AWD adds $2000 to the price.

There are 9 exterior color choices. Radiant Silver is the standard color and is the only one that’s no charge. 6 colors are $625 options, and the last 2, a Crystal White Tricoat and a Red Horizon Tintcoat are both $1,225. I choose Black of course for $625.

Surprisingly there are 5 interior color choices, all leather too:

Jet Black

Cirrus, which is a silver

Dark Arburn

Jet Black Semi-Aniline leather

Maple Sugar Semi-Aniline leather

The last 2 require $11,000 option packages. More on that in a bit.

There are 6 option packages on the XT6:

Platinum Package $$4,900:

Semi-Aniline leather seating (all rows)

Leather-wrapped instrument panel, console and door trim

Microfiber sueded headliner

Front and rear premium carpeted floor mats

Chassis Damping Control

Performance suspension

Two unique interior trims: Jet Black with Bronze Carbon Fiber trim with Ombre finish or Maple Sugar with Jet Black accents with Fineline Calico wood trim

Enhanced Visibility and Technology Package $2,350:

8" diagonal color Driver Information Center display

Reconfigurable color Head-Up Display

Rear Camera Mirror

Rear Camera Mirror Washer

HD Surround Vision

Surround Vision Recorder

Rear Pedestrian Alert

Automatic Parking Assist with braking

Drivers Assistance Package $1,300:

Adaptive Cruise Control - Advanced

Automatic Seat Belt Tightening

Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking

Reverse Automatic Braking

Floor Liner Package: Pretty much your standard floor mats and cargo tray. Dealer sets pricing.

Interior Protection Package $280: All weather floor mats and cargo tray.

Comfort and Air Quality Package $750:

Air Ionizer

Driver and front passenger ventilated seats

Rear outboard heated seats

These are kind of tricky because of one reason. Selecting the Platinum package pretty much adds all the other packages, excluding the floor liner and interior protection package, and adds $9,375 to the price. So all of these were selected.

Kinja'd!!!

There are 5 wheel options that are pretty pricey if you ask me. Aside from the standard 20” wheel, there is a 20” 12 spoke design for $600, 2 20” options both for $2,095 and one 20” midnight gray option for $2,295. I choose the last one. Just to see how pricey this thing can get. There are a few other stand alone mechanical options like tow hitches, side assist steps etc. Nothing of note.

There are quite a few interior options. CUE is standard. CUE with navigation is a grand but is included with the option packages I have selected here. A rear seat entertainment system with DVD player (which I’m still surprised is a thing). A Bose performance 14 speaker audio system is included as well. Heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats are included in the packages as well. A HUD display is included in the packages as well. All the other options are things like tablet holders, illuminated sill plates etc. Same nothing of note accessories.

There are 3 main standout features when you get to interior options, 2 of which I found kind of strange. The first one is Night Vision, which Cadillac has kind of been known for for over 20 years now. Its $2,000 option. The next one is the DIC or Driver Information Center with 8”color screen. This cant be added because for some reason it conflicts with the $2,295 20” wheels. Dumb. The last one is odd simply because I hadn’t seen it before. So 7 passenger seating is standard. 6 passenger seating is an option for $800. You would think you can choose one or the other for no cost.

Other than those options, there are 51 different dealer installed accessories. All in though, an XT6 with the options selected here is just under $70k. $69,785 to be exact; $71,785 with AWD. That’s German territory.

Kinja'd!!!

The next trim level is the Sport trim. There’s nothing Sport about it and its really all trim. They could have done us a solid and gave another engine option or something ( here’s to hoping for a VSport or V trim. Wont hold my breath). But no dice. It starts at $58,090 and adds:

Gloss Black exterior accents (grille, roof rails, side window surround)

Sport Control AWD System

Unique Sport front and rear fascia elements

Unique Sport 20" wheels

Unique carbon fiber interior décor

Sport pedals and tap-up/-down levers

Chassis Damping Control

Tinted neutral density taillamp lens

Body-color door handles

You cant get FWD on the Sport trim either. AWD is the only option. With the same options selected a Sport trim is $70,885; $72,885 with AWD.

Either way you cut it, the XT6 is not cheap and looks to do battle price wise with the likes of BMW, Audi, Lexus etc. Will it get customers to bite? That remains to be seen. The copying the Germans price and size wise hasn’t seemed to work for them. We will just have to wait and see if the XT6 can cash in on the crossover madness that is plaguing the auto industry right now.

Sounds like something a sketchy sales person would try to upsell you on: “ Oh yes that’s PremiumTech rust proofing to prevent fall apart”.

If I were picking an SUV in this price, which I never would for myself, I would get a dark blue X3 M40 or pre-owned Cayenne over this every time

Pretty much everything new or used in this segment is a better deal than this. It’s too...GM for me. There’s nothing compelling or unique enough about it to justify it. And I think that speaks more to how good everyone else has gotten.

“ Unique Premium Luxury”

Oh Fuck O ff. These words have no meaning, just smashing them together as a description of your base model wheels and trim doesn’t work. It sounds like some badly translated Aliexpress description.

Exactly. Because from what I described here, there’s nothing unique or too  premium about it.

From day one I’ve seen this thing it just looks like a generic SUV, and it still does today. Cover up the badge and it looks like latest Rockstar update of the Dundreary Landstalker.

These will probably be great values on the used market after they plummet in value. I’d love a two year old XT6 that had a $70k MSRP for $27 k, please.

I’m thoroughly unexcited by this vehicle. The only reason I can see to buy it is if you want a 3-row family hauler that projects a certain impression of wealth in the carpool lane at your kids’ private school.

Sure the XT6 is a lot cheaper than the GLS and X7 (as it should be) but it’s in the same range as the Q7 and XC90, and it starts $10k higher than the MDX.

The price is high, but if they can offer a decent lease on these, that’s what’s more important.

Idk, even if I had the money and needed the space for something like this, I’d be hard pressed to not just get a Telluride.

Oh yea definitely wait till around ‘21 to pick one up used. Should be able to still get one under warranty too.

It’s definitely a meh vehicle. Not to mention that Cadillac is too late in offering something like this. People that need something like this bought elsewhere for better. And the ones that did need 3 rows and wanted a Cadillac already bought Escalade ESV’s.

You'd be foolish to not get a Telluride or a Palisade.
